Knowledge and Aspirations

Knowledge and desire, these words sound like there is no match between them. If you ask yourself a question, how do Knowledge and Desire relate to each other, Most of you will get into thinking that, How? to get an answer to this we must first know what are Knowledge and Desire.

What is Knowledge?

Knowledge is the product of curiosity. If you find something curious, you will try to gain more details about it, you will do google, will read books about it. And honest efforts of you will help you to increase the knowledge on that particular thing eventually. But you never feel curiosity anymore, right?. If you remember, when you were a child, you used to ask many questions to your parent or teacher. But as you grow up, you became more and more materialistic, you killed the innocent child within you, you killed the same curiosity that represents you.

What is Desire?

First, let us understand that the word desire is used in different contexts in western and eastern philosophy. In the west, desire means - 'a strong want for something' So when Napoleon Hill mentioned that desire is the starting point of success, he just meant that to be successful, you need to strongly want to be successful. The reason that this philosophy is advocated in the west, is because a strong desire for success leaves no room for excuses.

However, in the Indian philosophical context, desire means - a strong infatuation with something. So in the context of the Gita, if you desire something, it's like becoming infatuated to something - your thoughts get clouded, your decision-making powers are numbed and your mind drifts to a state of limbo. Under this state, there is hardly any progressive work that you can do.

Desire, Expectation, are the drivers of human society. If someone asks you who you are, consider what your answer will be. You will immediately be able to know that your wish is the interpretation of your life. You get success by getting something or failure by not getting anything. Most people live in such a way that they die from within but cannot kill their desires. Desires make them run just like a hunter to their prey. But in the womb of these desires, there is also the light of Knowledge. How? when the desire is incomplete and broken, then the ray of Knowledge enters the human heart.

Knowledge is the eye of desire and can become the pilot of the soul.
